• Automated, high-throughput plasmid DNA preparations in advance of sequencing is now available.  Our equipment can process several 96-well plates from glycerol stock to DNA prep to sequence reaction with a reasonable turn-around time.  If you're planning a large project that involves plasmid preps and sequencing, please contact Jason Kramer to talk about planning and pricing.
• Storage of plasmid vectors in our plasmid repository.  This is the end of searching the back of a disorganized -80 degree freezer for a long, lost clone!  The facility is equipped with a state-of-the-art, automated freezer storage system supported by a robotic picking station and 2-D barcode reader.  There is no cost for storage.  Distribution costs are discounted for DF/HCC member laboratories.
• Distribution of plasmid vectors housed in our plasmid repository saves your lab from the hassle of unwieldy MTAs, unnecessary delays, and loss of personnel time.  And it enables you to order clones on-line and receive them promptly and with the necessary supporting information.  In addition, our automated system can array the plasmid clones you order in experiment-ready formats on 96-well plates.
• Database to support the plasmid repository.  No more rifling through old lab notebooks for vector maps; the facility will soon be able to provide a web-based, searchable database of plasmid clones.
• Database to support the shRNAs that are specialized sub-set of plasmid clones and to support other RNAi-based approaches.  In the future, we hope to enable a search by gene or functional domain that will pull up a list of potent and failed shRNA clones so that researchers can order effective clones and learn rules for the design of effective siRNAs. This effort is being supported by the DF/HCC and by the Harvard Skin Disease Research Center (Thomas Kupper, M.D., director).
